Joseph B. Vadella

Intro

My name is Joseph B. Vadella and I am from Carbondale, Pennsylvania. I studied Economics and Political Science at the Pennsylvania State University where I graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science.
I am currently enrolled at the University of Hamburg in Germany and am pursuing a Masters in Economics.
Before deciding to continue higher education, I worked at Region 1 Planning Council in Rockford Illinois for two years as their primary data analyst.

Work

Below is a list of notable works I've been a part of.

The people of Winnebago County voted by referendum in 2019 to add a tax of 0.5% to every sale to pay for a government program to increase mental health care access in the county. I was the main data analyst responsible for this project. All administration of the what would become the Winnebago County Community Mental Health Board was contracted to Region 1 Planning Council's Community Impact Team. As a part of that team, I was the one who prepared the summary statistics for the funded programs, analyzed their reports and reported data, produced data visualizations of this data, and then prepared the final reports on their progress for the County Board and the general public.

While working at Region 1 Planning Council as part of the Community Impact Team, I was also key in many other projects. Many of these projects involved integral data work and were done under contract for other local government agencies and non-profits in Rockford Illinois.

This was an event me and 4 other students lead as part of our Rhetoric and Civic Life course while at Penn State. We reached out to community leaders in healthcare and criminal justice as well as the general public to congregate and deliberate solutions to the ongoing Opiod Epidemic. I was in charge in making the informational packet summarizing the talking points prepared by my groupmates. Link to the PDF here

This is an annual event in which 6 students are split into right-wing and left-wing teams and make presentations on a chosen topic. My team was designated the "Socialism" side in the "Capitalism v. Socialism" debate in 2019. There was sadly no recording but I and my team won by a landslide in the post-debate audience poll. There was an amazing turnout of around 500 Penn State economics students (and my parents).

I have a Bachelor of Science in Economics and a Minor in Political Science. I have a myriad of hobbies; photography, hiking, education, animation, videography, chemistry, biology, geography, linguistics, illustration, programming, and political science and economics.

In the past I've worked as an Teaching Assistant in Introductory Chemistry courses as well as in Senior Thesis Workshop courses. I have founded 2 Student Organizations during my time as university and have been on the executive board for 3. I recieved the President's Freshman as well as the President's Sparks Reward.
